There is no such thing as being unstrict. In Mathematics, two plus two isn't almost four. In music, a note is not either this long or that long. There is only one RIGHT way to play it.
My kids didn't walk around in their uniform with the shirt tails hanging out. I used to tell them, "it doesn't say your name on the sleeve, it says Nazareth Band."
