Nazareth Area Blue Eagle Marching Band

History of the Band

According to the 1936 and 1937 editions of The Comet (the Nazareth High School yearbook) the Nazareth High School Band started in 1936 as a pep band to play at football and basketball games. They purchased uniforms for the next year and they began drilling (marching) while they played. The band grew considerably the first years and flourished under the direction of the legendary Mr. Weinhofer. Winning awards and competitions, as well as a disciplined committment to excellence became commonplace under his direction. This tradition has continued and has been enjoyed by many generations of Blue Eagle Band members. In fact, many of today's band members have parents or grandparents that marched under Mr. Weinhofer. Some parents even marched under Mr. George or Mr. Boandl. Thanks to the dedication and efforts of the Blue Eagle Band Directors listed below.
